Deriv provides six CFD trading accounts on the MetaTrader 5 (MT5) platform:
Deriv MetaTrader 5 (Deriv MT5) is a powerful CFD trading platform that lets you trade across a wide range of financial markets from a single interface.
Here’s what it offers:
Access to multiple markets
Trade forex, stocks, stock indices, commodities, cryptocurrencies, and derived indices.
CFD trading
You don’t own the underlying asset. Instead, you trade on price movements — meaning you can potentially benefit from both rising and falling markets.
Advanced trading tools
Use detailed charts, technical indicators, multiple order types, and automated strategies to analyse and manage your trades effectively.
The platform is known for its advanced charting tools, multiple order types, technical indicators, and support for automated trading strategies. It’s suitable for both intermediate and experienced traders who want greater control, flexibility, and analytical depth.
Deriv Trader, SmartTrader, and Deriv Bot offer digital options trading on a range of underlying assets such as forex, stock indices, commodities, and derived indices. These platforms allow you to set the contract duration before opening positions, and you'll know exactly how much you'll earn if your speculation is correct. You may find these platforms more intuitive if you're new to the trading world.
Deriv MT5 offer CFD trading on a similar range of assets, where you're able to open positions with leverage and your potential profit is only known when you close your positions. It's riskier than digital options trading because while you may potentially gain a lot if the market moves in your favour, you may also lose a lot if it doesn't.
You'll need to transfer funds from your Deriv MT5 account to your Deriv account. Transfers are instant, and your funds will be available in your Deriv account as soon as you complete the transfer.
Your Deriv MT5 login details are different because Deriv MT5 operates as a separate trading platform. It requires its own set of credentials to connect you securely to the MT5 trading environment.
Here’s the difference:
- Your Deriv login gives you access to your main Deriv account dashboard, deposits and withdrawals, and options trading platforms such as Deriv Trader and Deriv Bot.
- Your Deriv MT5 login is specifically for accessing the MT5 platform and managing trades there.
Think of it as having one master account (your Deriv login) and separate platform access credentials (such as Deriv MT5).
Follow these steps to reset your Deriv MT5 password:
1. Go to your Deriv MT5 account.
2. Click on Details.
3. Click Forgot password. You will be prompted to enter a new password for your Deriv MT5 account.
4. We'll send a verification code to your email. Enter the verification code to confirm the password reset.
5. You will see a screen confirming that your password reset is successful.
You can now log in to Deriv MT5 with your new password.
You'll need to transfer funds from your Deriv account to your Deriv MT5 account. Transfers are instant, and your funds will be available in your Deriv MT5 account as soon as you complete the transfer.
Your Deriv MT5 positions may appear to start with a small loss because of the spread. The spread is the difference between the bid price (the price you can sell at) and the ask price (the price you can buy at).
When you open a trade, it’s executed at the ask price if you’re buying, or the bid price if you’re selling. However, the current market price you see is based on the opposite side of that quote. This difference is what causes the position to begin slightly negative.
Once the market moves in your favour by more than the spread, your position can move into potential profit. The spread is a normal part of trading and represents the cost of entering the market.
You can’t manually adjust the leverage on your Deriv MT5 account. Leverage is fixed and determined by the asset you trade.
Different assets carry different levels of volatility and risk, so each one has a predefined default leverage. This ensures a structured approach to margin requirements and helps maintain responsible risk management across markets.
Remember, leverage magnifies both potential profits and potential losses. A higher leverage means you can control a larger position with a smaller deposit, but it also increases your exposure. Always review the leverage conditions of the asset before trading so you understand how it impacts your position size and risk.
Your Deriv MT5 demo account stays active for as long as you use it. If it’s inactive for 30 days, it will be automatically deactivated. You can create a new one anytime through your Deriv account.
Demo trading lets you practise in a risk-free environment using virtual funds. It’s ideal for learning how leverage works, understanding spreads, and testing your approach.
When you’re comfortable with your strategy and understand the risks involved, you can switch to a real account to apply what you’ve learned in live market conditions.
