Why do my Deriv MT5 positions always start with a loss?

Your Deriv MT5 positions may appear to start with a small loss because of the spread. The spread is the difference between the bid price (the price you can sell at) and the ask price (the price you can buy at).

When you open a trade, it’s executed at the ask price if you’re buying, or the bid price if you’re selling. However, the current market price you see is based on the opposite side of that quote. This difference is what causes the position to begin slightly negative.

Once the market moves in your favour by more than the spread, your position can move into potential profit. The spread is a normal part of trading and represents the cost of entering the market.
